Alternatives Data Integrity: Addepar ⇄ iCapital

A reconciliation engine that keeps Addepar's reporting in line with iCapital for private placements, structured notes, and insurance products (PPLI, PPVA, fixed indexed annuities, and RILAs). It checks commitments, capital calls, distributions, premiums, and NAV or contract values every cycle, fixes the breaks that follow a rule, and sends only true exceptions to a person.

iCapital feed: positions, activity, NAV→ Map to Addepar securities→ Reconcile 3 layers→ Auto-resolve by rule→ Addepar import file+ Exception queue

Ops hours per reconciliation cycle

Breaks found by check

Only the breaks a rule can't safely clear reach a person. Each comes with the evidence and a suggested fix. Approving here is a demo; in production it writes the correction and an audit entry.

Corrections the engine made without a person, written to an Addepar import file with the iCapital source reference for audit.

Rep-driven vs. automated

Rep-driven reconciliationThis engine
CoverageSample of positions, often quarter-end onlyEvery position, every cycle
Capital callsRep reads the notice, keys the call into AddeparMatched by iCapital event ID; unbooked calls written to the import file
DistributionsIncome vs. return of capital keyed by hand, errors hit cost basisClassification checked against the iCapital event type and corrected
ValuationsRep chases NAVs and contract values, compares by eyeLagged marks rolled forward; same-date breaks flagged with the % variance
InsuranceCarrier statements reconciled separately, if at allPPLI, PPVA, FIA, and RILA contract values in the same pass

Design choices

  1. One book of record. iCapital is the source for subscription, activity, and NAV; Addepar is reconciled to it, never the reverse.
  2. Match on IDs, not amounts. Activity ties on the iCapital event ID, so two equal calls are never confused.
  3. Automate only reversible, rule-based fixes. Adds, reclasses, and mark updates go to the import file. Deletes and commitment changes always need a person.
  4. Insurance is a first-class asset. Contract values follow the same lag, rounding, and break logic as fund NAVs, with carrier statements as the tie-out source.
  5. Every number traces back. Each import row carries the iCapital event or security reference.
